Always driven and curious, Kaliyma L. Muhammad, wielding a Bachelor of Science in biology, launched her career in the medical industry in 2012 as a clinical laboratory technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. This experience further developed her interest in the field and led to her official certification as a medical technologist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Since 2014, she has excelled as a senior medical technologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where, among numerous responsibilities, she is in charge of recruiting and training staff.
Although she was conducting biomedical research at Morgan State University, Ms. Muhammad wanted to do something different and innovative. She was inducted into the MBRS-RISE summer program in California, where she focused her research on earthquakes for six months. She was ultimately recognized with an award for her work at the Southern California Earthquake Center at the SCEC Annual Conference. In addition, she was honored at the Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students for Biomedical Research at Morgan State. Looking to bolster her already impressive educational resume, she is currently studying for a certification in microbiology. She plans to apply for the Special Master’s Program in Physiology and Experimental Medicine Studies at Georgetown University.
Attributing much of her success to her passion for helping people, Ms. Muhammad maintains a strong connection to her field as a member of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. In her spare time, she enjoys studying mystical science and astrology, doing cardio kickboxing, and knitting.
